I am sure by now that most of the country has seen about the wildfire here in Myrtle Beach, SC. It started yesterday afternoon and now has consumed over 8,000 acres. I wanted to take a minute to let everyone know, that my family is all safe, the fires have moved around us. However there are several others that are Local ActiveRain Members from throughout the county that need your prayers and support. It has destroyed several homes in Barefoot Landing which is about 10 minutes north of me. As long as the winds stay calm, hopefully they will be able to get things under control. If the wind were to shift south though, the fire would be heading right towards my house.
Here are two pictures from my development.

This was the view yesterday afternoon from my Office Home Office Window

Oh my....I'm sorry! I have been in this situation many times as I live in Southern California. My cabin is in Lake Arrowhead and we have dodged that bullet several times lately...so I know how scary it is. My very best for you and your friends, I'm glad you are safe! I will keep the whole area in my thoughts and prayers.
Karen
Yikes Jeremy, I did not know that, in Ky and had not been able to view the news. We are here at a funeral. Stay safe and don't play a hero if you need to go GO.

I heard about it briefly, and I am glad to hear that you and yours are alright. I am sorry to hear that other were not so lucky though.
I had heard about this. Not to often do you hear of wildfires in your area.
Latest report says 15,000 acres, over 40 homes destroyed and another 100 damaged.
Hi Jeremy, I hate to hear this. My father is headed your way in a couple days and is planning on staying in Merrill's Inlet but I am wondering if he should go now. We vacation at Ocean Lakes several times a year. How close is the fire to that area?? Or exactly where is the fire at?? Please take care of yourself!!
Saw it on the news this am - instantly thought of you Jeremy!
Blanton - Stay safe, my man. You are in my thoughts.
Jeremy - Be safe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Jeremy - We are praying for you and your family and all our South Carolinians and visitors in Myrtle Beach that they will soon get these fires fully under control and that the winds will calm - and that there will be no injuries either!
Mary
Jeremy,
The wife & I will be praying for you my friend.
That night shot is terrifying. Best wishes to you and your family.
Jeremy, In Oklahoma we know the devastation from fires and tornados. Physical things can be replaced, family and firends cannot. I hope you don't have to deal with this, but My thoughts are with others affected.
Holy smoke Jeremy (No pun intend) that is amazing the size of that smoke plum and the intensity of the fire. My prayers are with you guys.
Jeremy - Just came from Bob Stewart's post about the fires raging in Myrtle Beach. Stay safe and know you, Katherine and Isabelle are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am trying to find out if Surfside Beach has been affeted or evacuated. Mysister lives there.
Jeremy, this reminds me of the fires here in FL ten+ years ago. They actually had to close interstates. My step son had to do a back burn to keep from losing his property. We Floridians know how this feels. We are thankful that you are ok and are praying they will get his fire out quickly.
Safety first...hope everyone will be okay
Jeremy- Stay safe. Our prayers are with you! May God bless you and your family with safety and love.
Jeremy: Good to hear that you and your family are safe at this time. Please keep us posted. Any word on other rainers in the area ?
Jeremy- Stay safe nad move on if it gets too close. Life is too precious. By the way, my daughter and her husbands home was one of those lost. :(
Yikes.... I'm glad to hear you and your family are safe. With a little luck and a dose of divine intervention the winds will hold and the firefighters can get it put out. God bless!
Hi Jeremy -- Those pictures are very powerful and scary. I will hope and trust that the firefigthers can get this under control and stopped so no further people are impacted. Best Wishes...
May the Lord lift you and your family into his mighty hands and keep you free from danger
Jeremy. I sent a message to about 15 folks. Be careful. These things are vicious and dangerous.

Jeremy, I had no idea this was happening! My prayers are with you and everyone else in that area. I'm going over to check on a few other AR members in Myrtle Beach - please keep safe and if possible keep us posted!
So scary! I remember when the Yorba Linda fire was burning all around us last fall. We are thinking of you and hope you are staying safe!
Jeremy... wow, that second picture looks like a picture after a major war... and 10 miles is not that far away. Stay safe and hope all is well with the family. And hopefully we'll get to meet up at the end of next month.
I saw news footage this morning - please be careful and stay safe!
Here I am in NC and somehow didn't know! Wildfires have hit so many of our members over these past few years but luckily no one lost their homes. I hope the good luck continues for you as well. All the best and keep us posted!
Jeremy: Just wanted to wish you all the best as you go through this thing. I have been through 3 of those--living in the San Diego area. It's no fun at all, but the most important thing to do is to stay safe. It kind of puts everything else in perspective, doesn't it? Wishing for nothing but the best for you and your family and neighbors . . .
Jeremy - Having played golf at the Dunes and Barefoot Resort many times I am familiar with the area. This is scary awful. I hope this message finds you safe. Take heed. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Most Sincerely - Claude
One of our favorite vacation spots and I am shocked it could happen there. You take care my friend and get the hell out if you have to, material things can be replaced, you cannot!
Jeremy,
This is the first I've heard of it. Those photos certainly tell the story. How terrifying! Take care of yourself and your family. I hope they get this under control soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the fires.
Jeremy: Our thoughts are with you. Stay safe!
Those are some scary photos, Jeremy. How are you guys holding up?
Jeremy, I 'm so happy you and your family are safe. This is a terrible thing.
You know everyone's thoughts and prayers are with you. Hopefully the fire will be under control soon.
Jeremy, Keep safe. Those pictures are frightening, I hope they are put out very soon.
I haven't seen the news, but heard about it from Bob. Stay safe.
Glad to hear you're safe. It looks frightening. Take care of yourself and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Jeremy: Just wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your sweet family. God bless!
Jeremy, OMG how frightening for you, your family and other AR members in Myrtle Beach. My prayers are with all of you.
Just a quick note before I try and get some sleep. The fire is about 7 miles north of us. Currently the winds are co-operating. But, if they change directions we could be forced to evacuate during the night. So far 69 homes have been destroyed, and over 100 damaged. It is just under 20,000 acres burned now. Thanks everyone for your thoughts & prayers. I am exhausted and am going to try and rest in case I have a long night ahead!
Jeremy, be careful. This is so scarey! We just never know....hopefully you don't have to evacuate. We'll pray that you stay safe. ;-)
Jer - I don't recall hearing about major fires in that area previously - has this happened before? As I mentioned, you guys are in my prayers. Let me know if you need ANYTHING - I know that sounds trite, but I mean it.
Jeremy, hang in there and stay safe. You are in our prayers.
Not good. Be safe. You and all your neighbors are in my thoughts.
Wishing you the best! Our prayers are with you guys- stay safe!
Jeremy- In case you have to evacuate (which I hope you do not have to) Make a quick take box- with birth certificates, passports, home insurance deed & docs, meds, and photographs. Anything else that is critical and important we use this technique for Hurricanes. A large tote is usually enough.
I will keep good thoughts going out your way- and hope that you and your family remain safe and sound.
Awesome in a frightening way!

Jeremy,
All I can say is BE SAFE.
Our prayers will be with you and your family and everybody else that is being effected by this.
Jeremy, I don't know where I've been but stay safe. Pack everyone up and leave if it starts moving toward you!
Wow, Jeremy - That looks like a nasty fire!! Stay safe & get out of there if the winds shift!!
Jeremy - fires are so devastating, and we have been through many here in SoCal. Hopefully it is under control with minimal damage, and no injuries.
God bless you and keep you and your family safe.
Jeremy - thanks for updating us. It IS a small world, and when we read about a disaster where we have friends, we're truly concerned. You and all those affected have our prayers.
Jeremy..I have
been on my computer to long..I am so sorry ..haven't been watching the news..be safe !
This was taken in The Farm at Carolina Forest about an hour ago. Hopefully this will stay away from here!
Hi Jeremy (& Katie),
We just heard about the fires here in Austria, so I called Diane to see if you were ok.
Glad to hear you´re ok! :)
Lots of love,
Brenda & Joe
I love Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, no better places to be. I know some Realtors down there. I need to check to make sure they are OK. I sure hope it stays away from your place.
I know from the weather here is supposed to be hot and dry over the weekend. That is NOT going to be good for fires.
Our wishes are with you. We have spare bedrooms here if you need a place to stay and we have high speed!
Jeremy--This happened to us two weeks ago! An idiot started fires in a ditch about 3 miles from my house on a very windy day. The wind was blowing in a different direction from our house but several friends were evacuated as 3000 acres burned. Scary as I had to drive right by the fire to pick up my kids from school, then were rerouted as they closed off the roads. My heart is with you as it is so very frightening when it is a few miles from your home...All that smoke and fire is just scary! Stay safe!
It is one thing to hear it on the news, but another entirely to have it happen in your area - thoughts & prayers to your family & community. I've been through this myself, but fortunate not to need to be evacuated.
Lets hope the firefighters are safe while they work to keep the beast in check.
our prayers are with you and everyone involved. This is not an easy thing to deal with. stay strong and keep everyone posted if you can.
p.s. hey, Kent its you again and i am not even following you. lol i just commented on one of your blogs.
Great Day in the Morning!! Any updates, Jeremy. I'll turn on the news to find out and pray for you and your family.
The fire seems to be contained now and things are starting to return to normal. Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts & prayers.
Something like that makes you feel so insignificant and vulnerable. I hope all can recover fast and pull together as communities.
Glad you and your family are okay. I've was way too close to the October 2003 and October 2007 wildfires here.
I just happen to stumble across your blog. I'm really late, but are you okay?
