I just finished reading Erin Golding's post: How on Earth Do You Blog So Much and in there, she made the following statement:
(I can't figure out how to embed videos into my ActiveRain blog so if anyone can help, that would be great).
I wanted to make sure she got the answer, so the first thing I did was read through the 80 comments thinking for sure someone had left a link to a post on how to do this. To my surprise there was none. To my even bigger surprise, when I searched ActiveRain for an post I couldn't seem to come across an updated blog post with information on how to do it. So, Erin, this tutorial is for you!
If the video is too small to view, try watching in HD.

Indeed Jeremy, that was a great refresher....and I've followed those steps exactly, yet the video would not come through? Sometimes, I've had to do it 3 or 4 times before the video will show up in the blog. Now I'm noting I was doing an extra step by going back to the WYSIWYG and that seems to be my problem.
Now I know to do all my text work FIRST, then add in the video....A light bulb moment! Thanks!
Thom- good Point! Sometimes if you go back after embedding, it will remove the video.
Jeremy: It is much too late for me to even TRY and make sense of a video like this, so I will be back tomorrow when I am actually awake. But... I have wanted to learn this for over a year. I hope your explanation is simple enough so that even I can understand it. I will see tomorrow. Thanks a bunch !
Jeremy, excellent job in explaining this task. I have been doing my videos exactly like you described, and it is so simple and easy.
Jeremy:
You are leading us well -- right down the yellow-BLOCK (brick) (blogging) road
You must be the Wizard.
Yes Jim, Jeremy IS the wizard!! Nice of you to do an instructional video. It took me a while to find out that the video needs to be inserted last, and I didn't have you to explain back then. ;-)
Oh man...THANK YOU! I received a little video camera for my birthday and the beginning of summer and plan to use your tutorial to start uploading and posting some interesting clips soon!
Thanks Jeremy: I have wanted to do this for a long time now too. I am going to reblog this to my site.
thanks for the helpful hints and tip you provide the active rain community -- it is appreciated
Jer..
These video tutorials are great ... I knew how to do this, but now I know that I am doing it correctly! OH, BTW you might want to mention that it's a no-no to embed copyrighted videos without permission!
Good Morning Jeremy,
If I have to go back and edit the content, and save it again, will it still work.
Thanks Jeremy, looks easy enough,I'll be calling you!!
I was just wondering how to do this as I was going to do it myself coming up shortly, so great timing, thanks Jeremy.
Thanks for posting this! Candice A Donofrio was kind enough to email me privately with the instructions. It's nice to have it on video tutorial too!!
Thanks for sharing this information on how to video section.l I am starting to use more video in my business because people demand it.
You are the man. I am bookmarking this thank you so much for this post I am trying to do this and could not figure out how
You nailed it Jeremy. Amazing, that is exactly what I was trying to figure out how to do last night.
All hail Jeremy! We're not worthy!!
Jeremy - Great video of how to insert video. One thing I would add for people who are less knowledgable about HTML is to write out where you want the video to appear with some short text in all CAPS. Adjust the text in terms of alignment for where your video will go. I typically use "INSERT VIDEO". It makes it a little easier when you have a long blog post and you don't want to scroll through and try and find where you want that video to go. I know HTML very well, but this is a great help for me to speed up the process. Just select and highlight you text block (INSERT VIDEO) and paste your embed code in its place. Hope that helps a few people speed up the process and make it a little easier to understand.
Thanks Jeremy and Matt!
Jeremy, Thanks for this post. I'm going to bookmark for reference later on.
This is so helpful and much easier than I thought. I can jumpstart my video blogging! Thanks Jeremy!
Hi Jeremy,
This is great advice and a great reminder! Thanks for the great information! I am going to have to try it!
:)
Matt
Hello Jeremy, this is a great tutorial for embedding the YouTube code. I'd caution those that want to put in code for the Windows Media Player videos that the AR blog editor does not treat the html code so kindly. John
LIke others, I finally learned the video has to be done last. Same seems to be true for adding a slide show or anything else HTML. It's always nice to have a refresher so you can be sure you are doing everything correctly.
Jeff
Jeremy
Thank you for that post. Now I'm going to insert my video to todays blog post. I love AR
I really appreciate the tutorials. They are easy to follow and I feel great when I've accomplished the goal. AR rocks.
Thanks for the information. Always on thecutting edge for us. Another good feature.
Richard- Good point! Embedding videos that are copyright blocked are BIG nono and could get you into trouble. ALways check before using!
Matt- That is a great idea! I've never thought of doing that!
Jeremy - which video product do you prefer? It looks like you're used a product called screenr. Do you prefer it over tubemogul?
Jeremy,
Good job explaining the input of video. I have been doing this for years now but stumbled through it the first few times.
I've never used video much and now I'm inspired to play with it.
Thanks,
Ann
Christianne- Never used Tubemogul before. However, I have had many say they enjoy it. I normally upload my vids to Youtube or Facebook.
Thanks for the tutorial. I sometimes have great difficulty with this on AR. Other times it works just fine. I will check out your video tutorial for sure.
I have done this on occasion and learned the technique here. Thanks for the refresher.
It's amazing how simple things are once you know what you're doing. I consider myself rather tech savvy and have embedded video and other flash presentations in many other venues. I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to do it here. I did try to switch over to HTML but lost everything (my bad). Now it feels like a duh moment. Thanks!
Jeremy - Thanks for the tidbit. I had someone recommend Tubemogul not too long ago. I need to get cooking on more videos. Time to order that webcam I guess and start webcasting!
Jeremy,
Great Post! Another fine example of the power of Active rain! I am encouraged to finally get on the bandwagon of posting videos.
Thank you Jeremy, I am bookmarking this. Maybe you can help me with something else? I can't insert photos. (I know to use the tree symbol, but when I click on it, I hear a click and can't see anything in the browser. I know when I had trouble before it was my pop up blocker, but that is turned off. Do you know what other setting on my computer it could be?
Hope you can helpd with this one!!!
Kim- try holding down the ctrl button while clicking the button to insert photos.
Jeremy -- Thanks for posting a very clear tutorial. I have plans to insert videos. Now you just saved me time trying to figure out how to get it done. Thx!!
Jeremy, Thanks so much for the instructions. I want to book mark this so I can try it out when I am ready to insert a video, but I do not see a place to click to bookmark it like I usually do. Am I missing something?
Jeremy, Thanks for the video demonstration, but also how to know when the WHYSIWG is white it is on and when HTML is white, the HTLM is on. For some reason I always get confused. I hope this is clear.
Hi Jeremy, This is good information for me and for others I'm sure.
Thanks so much.
Patricia Aulson
Hi Jeremy, love it when I hear that the trouble I was having is normal. I too kept going back after inserting a video and finding it gone! that was soooo frustrating. But will take your advice and add it last! LOVE LOVE LOVE videos or screen captures! They make blogs so much more interesting! Oh and BTW - I bought and use JING which I've enjoyed but just recently heard about screenr too - it does a good job.
Wow that is so easy to do... I am bookmarking so that I can pull this up anytime. Thanks for making it so anyone can follow!
Hi Jeremy! I have always wanted to try a video and with your presentation I am off to pratice. Thanks for the instructions, any problems you will be the first I will call!
Jer - I too notice that sometimes when I go to edit the video gets wiped out! Oh, I just realized my v letter works again! YAY. Ok, back on track. I see you did this presentation via Screenr - did you use your regular mic to talk to? I'll skype you. ~Rita
Hi Jeremy
This is great. Thanks a lot for the info. I have some videos saved in my 'Pictures' file. The videos are in Quick Time format. Is it possible to add them to an Activerain post?
Thanks
Mark
Super info - I bookmarked and it's on my list for this week to figure out. Thanks as always Jeremy.
Finally some answers....Thanks Jeremy, this was a huge help :)
Jeremy, keep it up with these visual tutorials; they are great. Question: what's the best example of the use of video in real estate that you've seen? A lot of stuff out there seems like basic virtual tours or poorly done. Do you think promoting yourself for a minute is a good video or only stick with something on houses?
Jeremy,
Thanks for the demo. This is not something I knew how to do, but knew there must be some way to do it.
Jeremy...
As you really are better at things like this than I am, could you do me a favor? One of the emails I've received is from a Member who wants to know how to insert Video on the sidebar. I know how to do it but I can't explain so that someone actually understands my own personal "Geek Speak" :)
Another one of these tutorials would be very helpful so that we can send Members over to them. There are just some things I suck at. Tutorials are one of those things :)
P.S. Should you decide to take on this tutorial could you mention how to resize a vid so that it fits in the sidebar? And just so you know I have a Member on ice waiting on me to help her.
TLW...ROAR!
Awesome Jeremy! If I were a voting member of the Academy, I would say this is "Oscar Worthy." Now we just need the right category for you. Move over Spielberg...
oops - forgot to login - got so excited when I saw Jeremy's post - I couldn't wait. I was wondering why I didn't see my pic. I'm post #56. Thanks again Jeremy.
Jeremy - thanks for this as I needed a brush up as well... I was also wondering what tlw had to ask above me here.

Thank you so much for posting this information.
Sharon
Excellent post- easy to follow. I noticed you use a Mac (like me) Would you mind sharing what software you use for your screen capture?
Thanks!
It's only a challenge if you make it a challenge (to learn, that is).
My Gift. Enjoy. It's one of our all time favorites :)
And yup. I figured out how to resize them to save AR some bandwidth :)
TLW...ROAR!
Mark- You have to have the video hosted on some sort of platform first. Then you take the embed code that is produced & add to AR. At this time we do not host video on our servers.
Dave- I started using one you can find at screenr.com
Jeremy: Hoping to get the nerve to write a blog soon, then add pictures as you gave instructions to Kim and maybe even add video. My kids would be most impressed...not sure how effective all this hi tech expertise will be to enhance my niche market of SENIORS but who knows??
That tricky part is doing the video last... I figured that lesson out on my WordPRess blog... And A|R is especially tough about it...
I notice most comments have picture attached. I see my comment doesn't show my picture. My pictue is on my profile. How do I get it to show up on any comments?
Wow TLW .. a video in the comment section? Do I hear another Jeremy tutorial lesson coming on how to do that?
Way too cool. Gotta learn to do the videos on the sidebar too. Thanks for the continuous inspiration, TLW!
Thanks again... this is so very helpful.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!
I have been searching for help with this for several weeks! Again, thanks for taking the time and making it "non-techy" friendly.
Bookmarked! We just started doing video and it was on my list to hunt down a tutorial. Thanks, Jeremy! And double thanks for doing it on a Mac :))))))
Sharon
Jeremy you make it look so easy! If only I had a video
Great tutorial this is awesome. I need to start doing this.
Obviously much needed help in the right place for more than just myself. It is hard to remember where the info is once you need it in a jiffy. Thanks
Jeremy - Yet another valuable tutorial to add to my collection of tutorials that I need to study. I look forward to studying it in more detail once I start adding video to my posts.
Jeremy,
Thank you for the post. We absolutely think everyone should be doing this.
Jeremy,
Thanks for always making the information you provide user friendly! I am not totally computer illeterate, but sometimes I struggle with the technology and "code" functions. Thanks again!
this is a test. this is only a test. trying to see if comments work for the general public. Feel free to delete IF this shows up.
If it does not this is just another test in my science experiment I have been trying since Saturday.
It says email is optional, so I am NOT going to put it in because I think I may be blogging about this.
granadilla spelled right huh?
Many have asked how to insert video into your comments, so here is the details in a great tutorial by ActiveBrad.
Jeremy - great easy to follow video instruction on how to embed a video into the ActiveRain blog!
Thank you, your awesome!!! Tried to figure that out all day, then I found this.. so easy!
Stephanie
Jeremy: Thanks! I am going to read your tutorial a couple of times more and then I am going to get brave and try it.
Jeremy, I'm new to activerain and loving it. There is so much to learn so your blog and comments are important to me. You seem to make thinks as simple as I try to make them hard. Thanks for your input ... This will help soooooo much!
Hi Jeremy - Thanks for a great post. Now, how are you embedding the screenr videos in your posts? I was looking at the website and did not see how to do it. Thanks!
Wow, Jeremy. That nasty SPAM monster hits you, too. Careful with those nasty links in comment # 87. Just a thought.
Ask and you shall receive. How simple is that? Thanks so much Jeremy! Your demo video is just what I needed to learn how to embed my video.
Wow, I couldn't figure out how to do this. So I did a search, I found you, I implemented your steps and IT WORKED! Thank you!
Thank you Jeremy, technology at its best. I will be bookmarking this information for future use. If I have a problem may I e-mail or call you?
Jeremy - This is great information for our newer members or anyone for that matter who wants to know how to do this.
Thanks for the information, Jeremy. I'm now able to embed videos intop my blog posts.
Hi Jeremy ~ This will be a big help for plenty of people.
Liz
Great tutorial! You have just been elected part of my scavenger hunt! Happy Halloween!
I bought a video camera months ago and haven't even learned how to use it! But when I do, I'll be coming back to your post for instructions. Thank you!
Back again as part of the scavenger hunt. But, thanks again for an informative post!
Just took video today of our local Halloween parade. Will try to embed it with your instructions!
Hi Jeremy,
I have always been reluctant to try this. I am taking on Susan Brown's "Rainy Day Scavenger Hunt" contest though and finding a post that gave steps to embedding a video is one of the items. You are right, it was not easy to find directions. You did a great job here explaining it. I'm ready to give it a try!!!! Thanks for your post!
DeeDee
Jeremy, thanks for the clear instructions. Now just need a video to embed. You're part of my scavenger hunt.
Dude you are the man. This is so awesome! Have a great day!
I just found this, it's stupendous, and thank you so much. It so much easier when there are people around who actually know what they're doing and are willing to share. Thanks!
Thank you this is just what I needed. Now I just need to practice making better videos.
Karen...
It's been my experience that most Agents over think video. Just practice being yourself in front of the camera. Once you're comfortable just start shooting video. It's not as difficult as it looks. It really isn't :)
TLW...ROAR!
TLW- You make some really great points... People get all nervous because of a camera. Think of it as a client & just have a conversation with it. The beauty is that they don't talk back to you... Unless of course it is iRene the iPhone :)
