ActiveRain Tutorials: Claiming Your Domain Name For Your Outside Blog~ A Tutorial

Claiming Your Domain Name For Your Outside Blog~ A Tutorial

Each time I teach a webinar class, one of the things we spend a good amount of time covering is how to claim the domain name for your outside blog.  When you become a Rainmaker, a custom domain URL is part of your benefit.  You do not need to go to godaddy.com and purchase a domain name. So, I decided that I would take a  moment tonight and do a brief tutorial on how to claim your domain for your Outside Blog through ActiveRain.

Also, if you were wondering if an outside blog would be a benefit for you, you may want to check out a few great features of the outside blog.

So, if you have not yet become a Rainmaker and started your Outside Blog, try it today!  Also, if you would like to learn more on how to optimize ActiveRain & your Outside Blog, see if my Blogging Basics 101 class is right for you!

Jeremy - I really like my outside blog as it has been generating some pretty good leads recently.  Definitely, worth the price - even if at twice the cost.

Jeremy -

Thanks for the tips.  I know this was the source of head scratching for me, initially.

Jeremy,

I became a Rainmake just before you started offering the 101 courses.  Can I still sit in on them?

I know that if the answer is "no" I've already learned SO much from AR members, staff & ambassadors...but just wondering.

Happy Thanksgiving week!

Is this kind of like 'claim your customized header?" ;-)

Hey Jeremey, I have my own domain for my outside blog but I might be doing things wrong.  My domain name is not coming up in any searches but my blog on AR is.  What am I doing wrong?

Damon, I see your OB in the search engines...here is the issue though.  The title of your OB is Damon Gettier....That isn't anyhting to do with your search terms.  So the search engines are confused I believe.

Jeremy, you always have great tips! I've tried to set a name on my outside blog several times, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Any ideas?

Anthony - Jer sent me an email requesting I help you out.  The most common issues that cause problems when selecting a domain name are the following:

1. Don't try and add http:// when selecting a domain name.

2. Don't forget to add the .com at the end of the name  ie:  MyOutsideBlog.com

3. Don't use spaces, dashes, symbols, caps, or the other dots. .org, .net, .gov, .biz etc.

4. then there is a chance that the network could be having some problems or issues.

If you are still having any difficulty selecting a domain name, feel free to contact me directly and I'll help you get it setup. :-)
