ActiveRain Tutorials: Using Google Docs to Create Forms & Generate Leads

Using Google Docs to Create Forms & Generate Leads

Google Docs are one of my favorite tools on the web and also one that I think gets overlooked by so many people. Since I no longer own a PC I don't have access to Microsoft Word & Excel, so when I want to create documents and spreadsheets to send to someone I always use Google Docs. Another thing I love about Google Docs is the fact that you can share them with others and collaborate together. One way we collaborate in Google Docs is for our weekly radio show. Since there are four regular contributors into the show, it is a great easy way to share what topics we are going to discuss, notes on our guest speaker and so much more. It's a great way for all of us to access the same info and share things with each other quickly.

The other big function of Google Docs that I think gets overlooked by so many is the form function. The form allows you to create a document that can be embedded into a website, blog post or just about anywhere else. It gives you the creator a simple way to collect information from readers who want to participate. For example, I recently ran a contest for a company where we wanted people to be able to register for the contest. Consumers could simply fill out the form with their name, email address and phone number.

All of the information was then stored in an excel spreadsheet that I could then use to determine winners, and also have a good set of leads to follow up on about possibly purchasing a custom WordPress Site. So you may be wondering, how do you create these forms and how can they be used for generating leads. Well, I am going to show you how to quickly and easily create a form, install it into your site and then how the answers populate. Watch the video below to see step by step how I create and implement Google Docs form builder:

Also, here is the Google Form I created in the video so you can see how one works live:

Okay, I'm going to check out Google Docs, but I think the most astounding thing I read here is that you no longer own a PC. Not even a laptop ??

Jeremy...now I think that possible I might be able to utilize GDocs;  keep getting emails from google asking do I want to so do. Your explanation is so much clearer than the ones on G.  This post will be Bookmarked for that date when motivation hits me upside the head.  thanks for this education moment.

Hi Jeremy, I have used this in the past but not recently. For my WP sites I use Contact Form 7 but does not have the spread sheet option, may go and try it again. Great use of the video to show how easy it is, all the best in the new year.

Hi Jeremy...I saw Missy's reblog so wanted to come over to thank you for writing this.  Suggested!

I've been using Google Docs for some time now. My daughter lives in Williamsburg, VA about 90 minutes away from me.  Using Google Docs enables me to share documents with her and she is able to help me with some of my real estate tasks.  It's been very helpful.

Hi Jeremy, We use Google Docs for all our short sale processing, note taking, tracking, etc. We can assign permissions to the agents and title companies involved, etc. It has saved us many times when some bank tells us such and such did not happen and we have a tracking of even the time that it was done!

We also only work on Macs. I also love to use idisk and mobile me. I love ical so I have it synched to mobile me and can give my VA access to handle all my appointment from there. In our coaching business we just started using the 37 signals product. I use Backpack, Basecamp and Highrise in 37 signals and I can assign different people different tasks. This is a paid product but for what I need, it works the best. I don't like the filing features and organizing features of google docs for big projects like webinars etc.

But for most agents Google docs is the best option for them and it is free.

Isn't it liberating not to use Word and Excell anymore! I love Pages and Numbers. My favorite is Keynote!  :)

This is really cool, like an auto-responder like Aweber.  Does it have the functionality of sending/attaching a follow up e-mail (like a Thank you), and can you attach something (like an e-book or PDF)?

Hoping I can find the place to start in the menu.  After that, it seems pretty straight forward.  Thank you.
