ActiveRain Tutorials: Structuring Videos on YouTube For SEO

Structuring Videos on YouTube For SEO

SEO for VideoAs we are well aware by now, YouTube is the world's second largest search engine with over 4 billion videos now watched each day.  This means that it is an awesome way to gain exposure for your business online.

However, what most do not realize is that there are some basic principles to creating your videos that if followed will make them more popular to the search engines and increase your overall views exponentially.

At first I thought this was a theory until I recently did a video of my daughter and a new toy that she received for Christmas called a My Baby Alive.  This is one of the more strange toys she has ever received as it pees & poops.  I wanted to see if search engine optimization mattered or not, so I tested my theory on this video by doing a little keyword research and then implementing it into my video before uploading to YouTube.

Here's a quick tutorial on what I did:

So, if you apply some basic SEO principles to your video, I really feel you can begin to increase the number of views your videos receive.  Have you ever tried applying these principles when uploading a video to YouTube?

So simple, but at the same time it is so hard to know how SEO works.  I appreciate you doing the legwork and testing the theories for us!

Hey thanks Jeremy.  These tips are great and on my key videos I've done some of this.  I now need to go back and look at some of my others...and more importantly add some new ones.

You can also add in the description a link to your website and captions would also help. .

Jeremy, I did not know Youtube was the # 2 search engine. Also, I had always used commas behind each keyword so the way you did it apparantly works just fine.

You can also put your website's URL in the description and get a great backlink from YouTube.  Talk about a SEO boost

Posted by Eric Estate (JB Goodwin) almost 8 years ago

Short sweet and to the point.  Thanks.  Repeating key words should be fundamental, but I'm not doing it.

I am posting 1st person walk thru videos of my listings now.  Making them kind of rough no bells and whistles as of yet besides stabilizing in YouTube.

Posted by John Cameron, Real Estate Investing Seattle Tacoma (VITUS Realty, LLC) almost 8 years ago

Hi Jeremy - I have done this to some extent on my videos, but I think the key (no pun intended) is to figure out the right title and key words to get people to look at a video of a listing.

Thanks so much Jeremy, great info. One question- you mention putting the keywords in BEFORE uploading. Will I benefit if I go back and improve my keywords on videos I have posted months ago? Should do, right?

I am going to try your suggestions in my YouTube video.  Is using your URL in keywords a good idea as #20 Eric Estate mentioned?

Posted by Evelyn Kennedy, Alameda, Real Estate, Alameda, CA (Alain Pinel Realtors) almost 8 years ago

Thanks for some great tips which can easily be implemented with a little thought.

Quite franklly I am amazed that that many people are looking at a video about a doll that pees and poops and happens to be blonde (blond), but that's just me. My kids are grown so I am clearly not in the "in group." LOL

Posted by Gay E. Rosen, As Real as Real Estate Gets! (Julia B. Fee Sotheby's International Realty) almost 8 years ago

Hi Jeremy.  I sorta thought that's how it worked.  Anytime we have the option to "fill in the blank", we should use keywords, for SEO.  Thanks for confirming.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for this tutorial -- worthy of saving for future reference! -- and of a REBLOG ==>

Posted by Kevin Sembrat (Diversified RCS Inc; almost 8 years ago

The link mentioned in #20 doesn't do really anything for SEO as the search engines do not follow those links.  They are labeled <nofollow> in the coding.

However, it is nice to put those links there to hopefully drive the views back to your website.  I do that regularly.
